I, myself, am in recovery. I have spent many years studying this field. I have developed a unique perspective on addiction recovery. The body perceives Addiction itself as trauma. Most people in addiction struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma and the suffering of personal relationships. For many, Addiction serves to suppress these traumas and the emotions that come with it. This causes an inability to attach to others in healthy manner. People struggling with addiction often find themselves plagued by hopelessness and an inability to truly feel connected to anyone or anything. Substances soothe the nervous system in an artificial way and create the illusion of that much needed connection.
My curriculums employ all the different modalities of my practice towards managing and expressing emotions while healing trauma. The client learns how their brain works, and how substances truly affect them. They learn how to track the states of their nervous system, knowledge that empowers them to take useful action when faced with difficult emotions. I support the client to engage authentically with emotions, to be vocal and transparent when struggles arise in recovery—and to seek support.
I work with doctors, treatment teams and medical professionals to assist recovery for clients. Together, we develop a treatment plan, and refer out to other professionals as needs arise.
